Last week was an exciting one for us at Creekside Village. On Tuesday, we had “Ole Timey Bingo” back and the prizes were Christmas decorations, mostly donated by Betty Booher. While I was not able to attend this time, I have been told over and over again what a great time was had by all in attendance!
On Wednesday evening, a group of girls in action (GAs) from Ebenezer Baptist Church came a-caroling! There were 2 busloads and their youthful enthusiasm was infectious! They went up and down every hall singing and passing out candy canes with the Christian candy cane story on it. Then they joined a crowd of residents in the community room to sing a few requested Christmas tunes, as well as a special Happy Birthday to Mr. George, whose birthday is in December. The residents were treated to hot apple cider, Christmas Danish cookies and mixed nuts, thanks to a contribution by Deena and Cullen Shelley (thanks y’all!).
When I met with the girls prior to their trip to Creekside Village, several of them expressed their concerns about possible being hugged by folks they didn’t know (you know how they are at that age!). I assured them that we had no intention of making them uncomfortable, and also that they didn’t have to hug anyone they didn’t want to hug! Imagine my laughter when, after a rousing rendition of happy birthday to Mr. George, he gathered 3 or 4 of the girls (all tiny as twigs) into those great big arms of his and gave them all a hug! The girls went out dancing and singing, “I got a hug from Mr. George, I got a hug from Mr. George!”
You know, I say it all the time but I’ll say it again…I never cease to be amazed at the bridges our God can build, the paths our God can forge, the hearts our God can change…my prayer is that we will all be as open and receptive to His movements in us as those precious young girls were last week!
Join us Wednesday at 8 pm for a Christmas movie if you will…we are starting later so that the folks who are working the Salvation Army buckets can join us this time. We’ll also be distributing Angel Food on Sat and building fruit baskets for each of the residents on Sunday, 2-5 pm. We’d love to have you for any or all of these events.
Thank you for your prayers, your support with gifts and money, your interest in our little ministry. God is busy at work here, changing hearts and lives, and some of them are our own!
by grace alone, Betty Moore-Bell
